FAQ

Q.How is semantic search different from ChatGPT?

A.

ChatGPT and similar generative AI chatbots are tools designed for real-time text-based conversations with humans. On the other hand, semantic search engines like KandaSearch are tools for finding relevant documents from a vast array of text, images, videos, and audio data (collectively referred to as "documents"), and their uses are completely different.

While generative AI chatbots excel at making inferences where there is no single correct answer, they cannot reliably reproduce accurate knowledge and are prone to creating what are called "hallucinations." Caution must be exercised when building applications with these tools. Semantic search engines have opposite characteristics. The comparison can be summarized in the table below:

Feature Generative AI Chat Semantic Search
Chat ×
Search ×
Knowledge Recall ×
Inference ×

As the table shows, each tool compensates for the weaknesses of the other, suggesting that building business applications that cleverly integrate both tools could be beneficial.
