FAQ

Q.If I have semantic search, do I no longer need keyword search?

A.

Semantic search allows you to search for meanings represented as vectors, enabling broad searches even if text keywords do not match exactly.

However, depending on the application, there are cases where you might want to find keywords or strings precisely or within a certain range, so keyword search is not rendered unnecessary. Examples include:

  • Searching for parts by model number
  • Searching for books by ISBN
  • Searching for papers by author name
  • Prefix searches using directory hierarchies
  • Filtered searches by categories
  • Range searches by price or date
